Finally! Something to write about! Now that congress will be back in session and the Senate has already unanimously passed The RAISE Act, AARP is ramping up efforts to urge the U.S. House to pass the RAISE Family Caregivers Act. A commonsense, bipartisan bill, the RAISE (Recognize, Assist, Include, Support and Engage) Family Caregivers Act, would create a national strategy to support and recognize family caregivers. Once they return from August recess, the U.S. House could have just two weeks left to pass the RAISE Act this year. On the State level, we have SB1150 (Leno) which would protect surviving homeowners from unnecessary foreclosures after the death of the mortgage-holder. SB 1150 extends the reasonable communication requirements and legal protections of the Homeowners Bill of Rights to bereaved and vulnerable homeowners. AARP is urging members to send a letter to the Governor to sign this bill into law.
We also have SB 1234 (de Leon) – This bill will create the Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program. It has passed the legislature and now heads to the Governor.
