I love to eat out—a better cook than I prepares the food, I get served and I usually have enough food left over for another meal.  It also gives me the opportunity to get acquainted with cultures I know very little about.  In just a quick glance through the Yellow Pages, I found Italian, Greek, Mexican, Thai, Ethiopian, German, French,  Japanese, Chinese and Indian restaurants, many of them mom and pop ventures assuring me of personal service. Along with gastronomic experiences, I revel in the vast array of cultural opportunities we have in our area.  Like museums but don’t want to drive to San Francisco?  Head downtown to the San Jose Museum of Art or the Quilt Museum; enjoy visiting the Stanford University campus and explore the Cantor Museum for the Arts which is free and  contains permanent collections as well as visiting exhibits; and don’t miss the Triton Museum in Santa Clara as well as the museum on  Santa Clara University’s  campus (there’s a parking fee). Your tax dollars have provided wellstocked libraries  in Santa Clara County so take advantage of the variety of dvd’s and cd’s in different languages. The combined San Jose State University/ San Jose Public Library is an award-winning library and accessible by public transportation. We are so lucky to live in such a vibrant area! Enjoy!

President’s Message

President…Marlene Hruby

Thanks to those who attended the January 20th anniversary luncheon. It was an experiment that had good points and bad points. I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. We will discuss venue  and date for this year’s luncheon during the summer.
There was a problem with the hard copy mailing list for the January Dispatch. The zip codes were mostly wrong, although only a few were returned to me. I am so sorry. The list has now been checked and rechecked so this issue should be delivered correctly. I have also heard second and third hand that some members did not receive other issues. If there is a problem with delivery, you need to tell ME. I can’t fix it if I don’t know there is a problem, either by snail mail or e-mail.
Let’s all do our part in recruiting new members for our chapter. Pick up a couple chapter brochures to give to neighbors and friends, even enemies. See you on February 16.
