Please Remember Snacks for the February Meeting
Merry Christmas to all our AARP members. We have an opportunity to make it a better holiday for many children. Sacred Heart is collecting toys and books for about 6,000 kids. We can help them meet this goal by bringing new unwrapped toys and books to our December meeting. Sacred Heart is also collecting new and used sleeping bags for adults that really need them. Donations are always welcome.
In the Aug/Sept AARP Magazine there are 3 articles that should be of interest to all of our Dispatch readers:
“Keep? Shred? Scan?” – Page 29,
“Out-Tech the Scammers” – Page 33,
“Scam Me if You Can” – Page 67
Cyber Safety: Thurs., Aug. 15, 10:00 – 11:00 am, Rm Q80, FREE
Older adults frequently encounter scams through emails, websites, and phone calls which are designed to mislead them into compromising their assets or personal information. Cupertino High School student Venu Chillal will be partnering with the Campbell IT Department to provide information regarding such threats, how to differentiate between scams and genuine notices, how to avoid being targeted, and how to act in case of a scam. To register, call the Adult Center Office at 408-866-2146.

Remember to bring backpacks (avoid red and blue) and school supplies to the next meeting for the Sacred Heart Community Service project. Money is also welcome. Let’s send the children off to a good start. Sacred Heart continues to need these supplies throughout the school year for new incoming students, elementary level to high school.

Hopefully, many of you helped in your own way with getting out this month’s vote in the mid-term election. What a relief that’s over! Now we can concentrate on collecting our volunteer hours; rounding up eyeglasses, hearing aids, books-on-tape, and other useful items; and putting a bag together for Sacred Heart Community Service. A year-round need exists for all these items (except the election!) As Thanksgiving season draws near, we in our community can certainly appreciate how fortunate we are personally and that so many organizations, including our chapter, exist to help others.
We scored a big grocery bag full of eyeglasses last month! You were spared a fashion show of times past as they left the meeting early for their appointment with the Lions Club. Perhaps your church or other organization has these kicking around with no home. We can get them on their way to people who really need them easily — just bring them to our chapter meeting.
It’s not too early to get ready for Sacred Heart’s Pack-a -Back program. If you see a good buy on general school supplies or back packs as you shop, please consider shopping also for neighboring children very less fortunate than our own. Contributions are very much appreciated, especially at our next three meetings.
