New Year. New VTA Fares. New Service!
Starting January 1, 2018 VTA will implement new fare changes. Adult fares will increase to $2.25 while youth fares will drop to one dollar.
Enjoy faster service and free transfers for the first 2 hours when purchasing single ride fares with Clipper Card or the EZfare app across VTA buses and light rail, except express buses. Additionally, VTA will be extending service hours on select routes.

For our September meeting, we will have Gloria Hoo, past president of the San Jose-Santa Clara chapter of the League of Women Voters and Mary Collins, current president of the chapter, as presenters. They will be speaking about Propositions 55/57 (plastic bag initiatives), Proposition 60 (porn movie initiative) and Proposition 61 (Veterans Prescription Initiative). They understand that you will have questions regarding other initiatives. We suggest you bring pen and paper to take notes.

Finally! Something to write about! Now that congress will be back in session and the Senate has already unanimously passed The RAISE Act, AARP is ramping up efforts to urge the U.S. House to pass the RAISE Family Caregivers Act. A commonsense, bipartisan bill, the RAISE (Recognize, Assist, Include, Support and Engage) Family Caregivers Act, would create a national strategy to support and recognize family caregivers. Once they return from August recess, the U.S. House could have just two weeks left to pass the RAISE Act this year. On the State level, we have SB1150 (Leno) which would protect surviving homeowners from unnecessary foreclosures after the death of the mortgage-holder. SB 1150 extends the reasonable communication requirements and legal protections of the Homeowners Bill of Rights to bereaved and vulnerable homeowners. AARP is urging members to send a letter to the Governor to sign this bill into law.
We also have SB 1234 (de Leon) – This bill will create the Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program. It has passed the legislature and now heads to the Governor. President’s Message
Don’t forget they are renovating Room Q80 and the restrooms this month and we are meeting in the Banquet Hall. Use the entrance off Winchester Blvd north of Campbell Avenue. If you are not sure where it is, please check it out beforehand. You can also go the city of Campbell website and look up the site map. Parking is limited over there. Lots of spaces require the “S” ((senior center) parking sticker. There are quite a few handicapped spots. If you are able, I suggest that you park in our usual area and walk across the campus. Get your exercise! Are you saving that dollar or two in an envelope for the January luncheon? If you can, put in $2 per week and you’ll have your 2017 dues as well.
