Cyber Safety: Thurs., Aug. 15, 10:00 – 11:00 am, Rm Q80, FREE

Older adults frequently encounter scams through emails, websites, and phone calls which are designed to mislead them into compromising their assets or personal information.  Cupertino High School student Venu Chillal will be partnering with the Campbell IT Department to provide information regarding such threats, how to differentiate between scams and genuine notices, how to avoid being targeted, and how to act in case of a scam.  To register, call the Adult Center Office at 408-866-2146.

Remember to bring backpacks (avoid red and blue) and school supplies to the next meeting for the Sacred Heart Community Service project.  Money is also welcome.  Let’s send the children off to a good start.  Sacred Heart continues to need these supplies throughout the school year for new incoming students, elementary level to high school.

Thank you for your contributions to the Sacred Heart Pack-A-Back program, which is such a good cause. If some supplies appear this month, that’s okay too. The need is really year-round. The purple folder with your volunteer hours inside is always a treat to record and try to get into the correct categories each month. I try to remember to put mine on my calendar as I do them, but we all know what happens to good intentions! I’ll be on vacation at the time of the next meeting so my helpers will sort out my responsibilities and keep my work for me until I return. All our board positions have back-up arrangements so we can keep the ball rolling. It’s always good to be going on vacation instead of the hospital!

This month marks the beginning of Sacred Heart’s Pack-a-Back program which has always been supported by our chapter.  Keep this in mind as you shop and spy a good deal on school supplies such as pencils, pens, notebooks, backpacks (no blue or red), etc.  Ask for the manager of the store and tell him/her why you are buying these items. They will sometimes give you a teacher’s discount! At the end of August hundreds of packed bags are ready to help launch neighbor children into a successful school year.  We will be accepting donations (money and gift cards, too!) at our next summer meetings to help meet this community need.  As always, clothing and bedding are always welcome.
